McMenamins Mission Theater is more than just a piece of history. Described as one of the classic venues of the McMenamins' legacy, it has been hosting events for decades. However, its old-world charm presented some modern challenges.
As Nick discussed with our team, this isn't a standard hall. It is an intimate theater featuring a unique balcony structure that arrives from only one side. This asymmetry creates a complex acoustic environment where sound distribution must be carefully engineered to ensure every seat in the house from the front to balcony receives crystal clear audio.
Our goal wasn't just to fill the room with sound; it was to match the system's character to the intimacy of the space, ensuring the audio felt organic and part of the venue's legacy rather than an out of place, or forced technical bolt on solution.
The Solution
We selected equipment specifically suited to an intimate, older theater architecture.
PA System:DAS Event 26 Series Mini Line Array, This system was chosen for its compact footprint and powerful dispersion, perfectly matching the scale of this small theater while maintaining high fidelity in a challenging acoustic layout.
FOH:Midas Pro One provided a robust mixing surface that allows effortless manage of events.
Acoustic Analysis: We analyzed the room's asymmetry and tuned the system to compensate for the unique balcony placement, ensuring balanced coverage.
Installation & Tuning
Our team executed a solid installation designed to last. From structural mounting of the mini line array to calibration and fine tuning of the signal chain, every step was taken with precision. We treat PA tuning as an art form adjusting EQ curves and delay settings to work with the room's natural acoustics.
